The news that Manchester United have agreed a deal in principle to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich has gone down well with the club's fans, but former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher insists he "couldn't be happier" with the development.
After Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed that the Bundesliga champions had reached an agreement with United for the transfer of the 30-year-old, Carragher questioned on Twitter whether the World Cup winner would be able to play in the same midfield as Michael Carrick.
Fellow users accused the television pundit of being "bitter", but Carragher insisted he was delighted that United were signing a player "past his best" and that they were also likely to lose David De Gea to Real Madrid.
The tweet provoked plenty of responses that suggested Carragher had successfully wound up some Red Devils fans, who will be hoping their side have the last laugh next season.
